How Many Implants Will I Need for My Implant Denture?

Implant dentures are a state-of-the-art solution for replacing a full arch of upper and/or lower teeth. Each custom denture is secured within the mouth by at least four dental implants that have been surgically inserted into the jawbone. When four dental implants are used, the treatment method is called All-On-4®—which has become a popular and widely-known name for the implant denture procedure. While the All-On-4® approach can deliver great results, our implant dentists—Scott Hamblin, DDS and Joseph G. Willardsen, DDS—sometimes prefer to place six or even eight implant posts (when possible) to provide added stability and help maintain more healthy jawbone density. The pressure placed on the implants as the patient chews stimulates regeneration of bone tissue, which keeps the jawbone strong and prevents bone loss.

Our Las Vegas implant dentists determine the number of dental implants needed to secure your implant denture based on a comprehensive evaluation that assesses the condition of your oral health and reviews your goals and budget. Typically, the number of dental implants required for each full arch correlates directly with the amount of jawbone volume/density you have to work with. The less jawbone density you have, the fewer dental implants you may be able to support. A patient may also opt for fewer dental implants (minimum of four) based on their budget. The only way to find out about the most suitable implant denture treatment plan for you is to schedule a consultation at True Dentistry with one of our implant dentists. Using x-rays, three-dimensional imaging, and traditional exam techniques your dentist can determine an approach that aligns with your goals, priorities, and budget.
