Las Vegas Cosmetic Dentist Discusses Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation Procedure for Gum Recession
Dr. Joseph Willardsen says Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation is an advanced new technique to treat receding gums without the need for major gum grafting surgery.
Las Vegas, NV – Receding gums are a very common problem, and the condition can lead to serious effects on the overall health and appearance of the gums and teeth. Dr. Joseph Willardsen of True Dentistry says a revolutionary new technique available at his Las Vegas cosmetic dentistry practice offers an efficient and virtually painless way to improve receding gums. He notes that, while traditional gum recession treatment involved major gum surgery, Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation® is much less invasive.
The treatment, also referred to as the Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST™), was invented by renowned dentist John Chao, DDS. It requires the placement of a tiny pinhole above the affected gums. A special instrument is then inserted through the pinhole, and the gum tissue is then lengthened and draped over exposed roots of the tooth. Since gum recession can lead to tooth loss and decay due to unprotected tooth roots, Dr. Willardsen says Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation® gives patients a way to address the problem and restore the gums without the extensive recovery periods often associated with gum surgery.
A recent blog post on True Dentistry’s website titled, “Receding Gums Treatment with Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation,” discusses the advantages of the treatment. Dr. Willardsen says several of the benefits may include:
- The procedure is minimally invasive.
- Only a local anesthetic is typically necessary to minimize discomfort during treatment.
- Fast recovery time (the pinhole made in the affected gums often heals the same day as the procedure).
- Patients can often eat and drink normally in a matter of hours after the procedure is complete.
- It typically takes less than 20 minutes to restore a single tooth.
- Multiple teeth can be treated in a single appointment.
Dr. Willardsen says the majority of his patients appreciate the Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation® procedure because they see immediate results. He believes it can be a favorable alternative to a gum graft, which is one of the more conventional treatment methods for gum recession. Gum grafting involves cutting tissue from an area of the patient’s mouth and suturing it over the receding gum area. Dr. Willardsen notes that, while the gum grafting procedure can be very effective, it can also take weeks to fully recover from it, whereas the Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation® technique typically requires only minimal recovery time.
Dr. Willardsen says patients who have active gum disease will need to have that treated before they are candidates for PST™. However, he notes, once the gums are healthy enough to address areas affected by gum recession, this innovative new treatment can go a long way in preventing future dental problems and enhancing the appearance of the gums.
